It’s CV time.

I’ve got to the stage where I need to design my CV for sending out, so I’ve looked at a few different ones on the internet for a little inspiration.

Unfortunately, there’s not much out there that I like. I feel that some of them are too confusing, some are infographics which I’ve never done (and to be honest, I feel I’ve not accomplished enough for me to create infographics which are the slightest bit interesting!) and others are time lines.. Again, I’m only 20 years old and I feel I’ve not experienced enough for that sort of thing.

Anyway, the 4 above are a few of my favourites I’ve found. I especially like the simple black and white type based ones. Clear and simplistic, they get to the point and give the information needed clearly. As my last project was based on type I feel this is a path I could choose for my own.

I’ve always felt that CV’s had to be black and white so I was surprised at the amount of colour used in some of the CV’s I’ve looked at. So the red CV is my guilty pleasure, as many know I adore the colour red, and that one just caught my eye due to the colours. I’m really impressed with the newspaper/comic book style CV. I would have never come up with something like that and I feel it’s incredibly effective.

The last one is the Google style CV. This made me laugh, and made me want to create my CV this way like I created Choogle. It’s genius. Shame it’s already been created or else it’s something I would do for my own.

Wish me luck..

So, Emma pointed me to this website. A similar sort of thing, people submit quotes or lines and this guy illustrates them. Obviously, you can tell that there is a style that flows throughout the set that he’s created so far. I wish my work had a style that you could easily tell that it was a ‘Charlotte Horsfall’ so to speak but I’m not sure if it’s there.

I really do love the intricacy in some of these images, and I obviously still favour ascenders and descenders that flow into one another. Unfortunately I’ve not mastered that yet but I love to look at it. There are a lot of decorative accents, (swirly bits) in this work, which I’ve noticed I lack in my own. It seems to break up the work into sections. Maybe with some of the re-do’s I’m doing, I’ll add some in.

I’m still developing and learning with this project, and I can see me going and going with it until I’ve perfected it. Perhaps I never will, but I feel I’ve come so far in 12 weeks that I can keep going yet!

These are just a few I like, especially the BTTF ones.

I seem to have a thing about minimal film posters. I am in awe.

I think it’s the fact that people can strip a film to one scene or one prop and just associate it with that film. I love the simplicity, obviously, but the colours as well, and the old style that is created within that. I want to know how to do this for my own work.

Also, the use of space around the main image/focal point. I seem to have difficulty with cropping things right to the edge. I’ve gotten better though within this project but I still find it difficult.. I dislike ‘white’ space.

I know these aren’t particularly relevant to my FMP, but I felt that they could help me with spacing/colours and the way the text is laid out on the posters.

Um. Why doesn’t mine look this good?

SO

I’ve been a bit inspired by this.. so I’m going to have another go with plasticine.

Maybe I can make something as lovely as these.. fingers crossed..

PLACEMENTVILLE: WEB JUNIOR JOB..... ›

placementville:

Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer

http://www.reallygooddomains.com/vacancies/junior-graphic-designer-stockport.asp

Salary: £16,000 – £18,000

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Hazel Grove, Stockport

Established in 1999 and widely recognised as one of the most successful internet…

I think I’m going to go for this.. it’s literally less than 2 miles from where I live. And Jason said that pretty much anyone who did Web Design for Pro Con 3 could do this.

Can’t hurt right?

So, I found these online. And wow.

The ones here are my favourite.. but there are a fair few pages of them. Not sure how often they update.

These are the sort of things I wanted my project to be.. I’m jealous to be honest. But, this could be a good thing. Maybe it’ll spark something within me.

They are digital, and a lot of them look like they use stock images but there’s just something about them. Just 5 words are used in every one.

I blogged a while ago about finding some cards in Clintons up in Scotland, but never finding them down here… so last time I was there I went and bought pretty much all of them. The first three are the cards..

I’ve noticed that I seem to favour things with carnival/circus fonts. I think I’m just feeling that style at the minute. They’re very decorative and I just really like them.

The last image is some wrapping paper my brother used for my mom’s birthday present last week.. again there is a heavy circus/carnival inspiration there. Very simple, I just wish the ‘happy’ font was a bit nicer. Looks too spaced out..

Last Thursday was the final DNA Salford mini event.. which was a pub quiz.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t many industry there but it still was a really good night out. Got to know fellow students better and talked to the tutors in a less formal setting (Although, when are seminars ever formal?)
Our team came third, and I was quite proud to know some of the answers.. seems I know more about design that I originally thought.
I’m quite sad to see the DNA events go.. despite the stress of organizing, I’ve learnt a lot about the industry at the events. I’ve also learnt how to go about organizing an event and what needs to be done. It’s not as easy as you’d think.
Now, for the main event in June..

So, my website is finally finished.

I spent most of my time creating thumbnails for my work, but I was worth it in the end. It looks a lot better than having odd sized thumbnails.

I had a last minute change from Georgia font to Century Gothic.. but I’m thinking of changing it back as after looking through my work, I use Century Gothic a lot. And I think it’s a bit too much/in your face.

I’ll see what I think over the weekend.

But so far, i’m pleased with how it’s turned it out. I’ve learnt how to create a favicon too this time so when you look at the url bar a little ‘CH’ comes up.

Now, boards to do..

Been thinking about my font on my website. And have decided to change the links and h2 to italics.. just to offer some variety as I felt it was getting a little too heavy with the bold text.
I’ve also changed my site to have an about page instead of a motion page. This is because I feel that my motion work isn’t particularly relevant to what I like to do any more.
My jQuery slideshows are working properly now thanks to Jason. All that needs to be done is just to finish a few more pages of thumbnails and content to be written, but the code is all done now.

Been doing web coding past few days.. having some issues with jQuery but that’s no suprise. I’ve also got to make thumbnails of all my work and I’m really not looking forward to that. I know I can just do a batch action, but I’m not sure I just want the center of each image.

Need to see Jason tomorrow about issues, but most of the coding is there. It’s just placing the content in now which will take the longest..

So, the Roses Student Creativity Awards were last night.
And I won my category.
Told you I’d enter this year with a vengeance!
I had a lot of fun. I wish I had stayed around for longer and networked, but unfortunately only talked to Rob Taylor (Like A River) who had set my brief. I really enjoyed it and probably had the most confidence I’ve had in a long time. It’s really boosted my confidence and with my FMP I’m wishing I wasn’t leaving uni in a few weeks as I’m having so much fun.
I was amazed to find out only 10 people entered my brief. I’d thought it’d be popular as it’s rather self indulgent.
I have to say, seeing my work up there made me feel really proud. I wish it had been displayed differently though as it was a bit hard for others to see what I had done..
Anyways, I’ve to sort out placements and what not in a few days. See what happens..

Been coding my home page today for ProCon3
It is simple, but it works. I think last time I tried to add too much into my website and it got confusing.
I still need to tweak it, for example it’s not central and I need to sort out the leading on the text using a css reset, but I’m confused about how that works properly cause every time I do it, it just wipes the whole css.. so I shall ask Jason on Monday.
Need to find a nice embedded slide show for my portfolio pages and start coding them too. I need to add my phone number at the bottom as well I think.
