So, my website is finally finished.
I spent most of my time creating thumbnails for my work, but I was worth it in the end. It looks a lot better than having odd sized thumbnails.
I had a last minute change from Georgia font to Century Gothic.. but I’m thinking of changing it back as after looking through my work, I use Century Gothic a lot. And I think it’s a bit too much/in your face.
I’ll see what I think over the weekend.
But so far, i’m pleased with how it’s turned it out. I’ve learnt how to create a favicon too this time so when you look at the url bar a little ‘CH’ comes up.
Now, boards to do..
Been thinking about my font on my website. And have decided to change the links and h2 to italics.. just to offer some variety as I felt it was getting a little too heavy with the bold text.
I’ve also changed my site to have an about page instead of a motion page. This is because I feel that my motion work isn’t particularly relevant to what I like to do any more.
My jQuery slideshows are working properly now thanks to Jason. All that needs to be done is just to finish a few more pages of thumbnails and content to be written, but the code is all done now.
Been coding my home page today for ProCon3
It is simple, but it works. I think last time I tried to add too much into my website and it got confusing.
I still need to tweak it, for example it’s not central and I need to sort out the leading on the text using a css reset, but I’m confused about how that works properly cause every time I do it, it just wipes the whole css.. so I shall ask Jason on Monday.
Need to find a nice embedded slide show for my portfolio pages and start coding them too. I need to add my phone number at the bottom as well I think.
So, after sorting my leading and removing the bold from my links, I also had to sort out how my gallery would work. I’ve made all my thumbnails square instead of all different shapes so now that looks miles better.
I have also added a light grey box around where the image would magnify, as it could get lost on the darker grey background. It also sets a nice border around the image.
I hope to have a scrolling thumbnail bar at the bottom of the page, not sure how to code this yet but hopefully won’t be too difficult.
Some Pro Con 3 stuff is getting uploaded again!
So, these are the original designs I had for my website - very simple and influenced mainly by http://thefewgallery.com/
Andy said I needed to sort out the leading on my text, which I have done and remove the bold from my links. Which I agree on, it seemed too heavy for the font.
Finally getting round to putting my Pro Con 3 research up.
I’m re-designing my portfolio website as I’ve been planning it for ages but never really got around to it. My business cards are black with white/red text so this will be transferred into my design for my online portfolio.
I’ve been looking at ‘dark’ themed websites on Site Inspire. The images above are just a few of my favourites. I like the simplicity of them, few fonts/colours. White text and a highlight colour.
I still have no idea what I’m doing for Pro Con 3 yet
I’m unsure whether I just want to re-design my portfolio - which is what I had originally planned, as I only have a holding page up at the minute
Or, if I want to do something with my FMP and this Lyric A Day thing, I have ideas of motion pieces and animations in my head at the minute, although I doubt they will take shape.
I will probably stick with the portfolio - I’ve found some things I want to use such as link colour transitions and other things.. unsure how difficult they’ll be to do, but it’s worth a shot.
I need to mock my website up asap.
And re-design my logo..
Elbow
I adore this website. I literally sat and played with the logo/sparkle for hours yesterday. The notes that play when you hover are great something you don’t expect but add something extra to the website.
Its so simple but so effective.
I was looking for a recipe and came across this on my search.
Now, usually I’m not a fan of the Hairy Bikers (I find them patronising and really simple.. and neither of them actually have any qualifications in cooking!) but I LOVE this website.
I like how simple and stylized it is. Even tempting me to buy a tea towel or apron.
So, instead of watching the X factor last night.. load of rubbish.. I decided to create a new ‘holding’ page for my portfolio.
Using all the new bits of HTML/CSS/jQuery I’ve learnt from the Pro Con 3 brief, I’ve come up with a very simple page using a slide show to show a selection of my work.
I can’t wait to re-design it properly.
My web boards are finally done.
I actually have learnt a lot on this project, I still can’t design websites that well but I can code them. Looking back now, I wish I could start it again and make it better. I always seem to feel like that once I’ve finished a website, but never mind.
jQuery is my new best friend.
Just need to print everything tomorrow. Oh joy.
It’s finished!
I think.. 18 pages. Not many, I know, but I don’t think I could type any more stuff up from the magazine.
I had a bit of an issue with the Contact Us and Upload forms but I think they’re okay now. Also, i’ve no idea how to get rid of the underline on my gallery without taking it off all my links. Will maybe have a play around to get it fixed but now, onto the boards.. Ugh.
So, after a 7 hour journey from Scotland.. one good thing came from it.
I have a working Gallery page with a drop down!
I was a bit worried cause I’ve read you can have a bit of an issue having the two, but mine seem to be working okay, so fingers crossed!
Few more tutorial pages have been made.. still got a fair bit to go but it shall get done.
I’ve been trying out some different layouts for my How To pages.. I just can’t seem to get one that works properly. Either the text columns are too wide, or too small.. It seems to work better in PhotoShop but once I try it in HTML it doesn’t work. Just my luck.
But, I’m on a train for the next 3 hours or so by the looks of things so I can keep at it and hopefully crack it.
FINALLY
Tumblr is working!
I spent most of last night being stuck in Scotland and coding my drop down menu. I should have started with it first as it was a pain in the ass. But, hey ho, it works now.
I’m not sure if I’ve been cheating as I’ve been using tables in my coding. I find them a lot easier than all these different div’s.. lets hope I won’t get told off!
A week until hand-in and a fair few pages left to do. Not panicking yet.. I’m more worried about the boards!
